Trained age 4-17 at the Ethel Hardy School of Dance. Appeared in Junior Showtime, Watt Fettle, The Paper Lads and Bugsy Malone, Theatre Royal Pantomime. Age 8 winner Sunshine All England Tap.
Qualified tap and ballet teacher age 16 NCDTA 1980. At age 17 diagnosed with scoliosis. Began teaching at Ethel Hardys and Gilbert Dançiels before starting own school in 1981 Caren Lumsdale dancing School. Within a year was producing championship winners who were winning British titles with the then S.D.C.I. Having trained over 40 English/ British Championship winners in all dance styles as well as regional winners and Championship finalists country wide, plus Champ of Champs. Represented the NCDTA at the TDCI Scholarships landing many titles over the past 44 years as recent as 2022. Produced many Miss Dance and Dance Master UK finalists winning the title in 2008 and a Miss Dance runner up in 2005.
Many students have gone on to prestigious vocational colleges on full scholarships to continue on to West End Musical success, international tours and cruise contracts. Trained over 20000 pupils ,40 students becoming professional teachers with their own successful studios.
I offer advice to the teachers who need help as NCDTA members.
2006 Opened a new purpose built studio converted from an old gym. The first Theatre School in South Shields to do this.
2014 Won Carl Alan Award for teaching.
2018 Organised an annual charity dance show involving 17 dance schools for the CANDLTFT supporting talented Performing Arts students, raising £48,000.
2021 Awarded Le Classique De Danse for Lifetime Achievement.
2022 -2025 Head of Ballet Arts North Space college Sunderland.
2024 NCDTA winner of Teachers award. Began to examine for NCDTA as an interim examiner.
